Watch Cate Le Bon’s New Trailer for “Crab Day” It just might be the weirdest thing you’ll see all week

Cate Le Bon, the ethereal, angel-voiced Welsh singer/songwriter who’s worked with Tim Presley, White Fence and the Chemical Brothers, is finally releasing a new album. Her fourth solo release to date, Crab Day will also be her first album with Chicago-based indie label Drag City. According to Cate:

“Crab Day was lovingly formed in the mouth of the Pacific Ocean, as it quietly mocked us with its magnitude. It’s the sound of the ‘accidentally on purpose’ coming together of the right people at precisely the right time in an environment that furnished and fueled the abandonment we felt effortlessly. It’s a coalition of inescapable feelings and fabricated nonsense, each propping the other up. Crab Day is an old holiday. Crab Day is a new holiday. Crab Day isn’t a holiday at all.”

To accompany the album’s release news, Le Bon also leaked a trailer for a film she’s been making with visual artist and filmmaker Phil Collins — not that Phil Collins — and it’s possibly the weirdest thing I’ve seen in a long while. Check it out above.

Le Bon will also do a mini tour before the April 15th album release date, where she’ll perform Crab Day in its entirety with the experimental/improvisational group Banana, comprised of Josiah Steinbrick, Josh Klinghoffer, Stella Mazgawa (of Warpaint), Stephen Black and H. Hawkline. If this trailer is a glimpse into what the band will be like live, Le Bon has definitely got my attention. —Maya Eslami
