Watch Allah-Las New Video for “Famous Phone Figure” and get the details on their forthcoming LP Calico Review

Allah-Las dropped a new video today for “Famous Phone Figure”, the first single to be released from their upcoming third LP Calico Review. Directed by Robbie Simon and shot by Chris Slater, the black and white video depicts a series of women, their silhouettes, and their lips mouthing the lyrics to the song. “I wanted to make a video that centered around anonymity,” says Simon. “The only information offered up is what we say and what we do, a total removal of vanity and vapid judgement. Who we are is what we do and what we believe. In other words, the literal opposite of how we all live our lives online day in and day out.”

Calico Review, Allah-Las first record on their new label Mexican Summer, was recorded at Valentine Recording Studios, using “historic recording equipment including a 1964 Universal Audio 610 soundboard, the same board on which The Beach Boys recorded Pet Sounds.” And if that wasn’t enough to get your mouth wet, the songs on the album contain a whole slew of new instruments (including a theremin and a Mellotron) as if the spirit of Brian Wilson and the Wrecking Crew echoed down on the boys in the studio.

To go along with the release of the video, Allah-Las also “quietly” released some studio footage of the Calico Review sessions, shot by Tony Accosta. I heard a rumor the album is loaded with special guests and surprise collaborations, and if “Famous Phone Figure” and the footage is any indication as to what the full length will reveal, I’m ready. –Maya Eslami
