Well, if you’ve followed What Youth for any amount of time you would have seen the unmistakable photographic excellence of Nate Lawrence. Nate’s been submitting photos from literally day 1 and his contributions to WY have been extraordinary. Thank you, Nate.

Recently he teamed up with Leo Maxam to produce something a little different from the usual surf projects we normally see. Nate has been living in Bali for so long many forget his roots are Nor Cal so he, and Leo, added a local perspective to the gritty, urban surf scene of San Fransisco, while also doing some good work for underprivileged youth. Pretty solid.

Here’s the presser.

CITY SURF tells the story of the City Surf Project: a group of San Francisco surfers connecting underrepresented youth to the ocean and themselves through surfing. Featuring powerful stories from CSP’s students and a plurality of characters from the city’s fringe saltwater society – surfers who come from all walks of life – this beautiful hardcover coffee table book documents San Francisco’s unique urban surf culture and its impact on the city’s youth. Shot entirely on film by Nathan Lawrence with more than 200 original photos as well as the eloquent words of Leo Maxam, CITY SURF is a celebration of what it means to be a city surfer and how surfing and the ocean are changing young lives in San Francisco.
